Emerging Worship Songs: Love Of God Revealed
Friday September 14th 2007, 2:38 pm
Filed under: EmergingChurch, Brainwaves, Creational Theology

We’ve just begun a new section of our Institute website that features Emerging Worship Songs.

Today, we’ve posted a hymn I’ve written, entitled Love Of God Revealed. I began writing this piece some years ago, but have now finished.

The demos are simple and very rough, but enough to give a good feel for the song. Feel free to use it in your context if it feels like a fit and will serve the worship life of your community.

Here’s our blurb from the site on what we’re doing:

Beginning, October 1, 2008, here you will begin to find emerging worship songs, born out of the Institute’s vision to embed rich theology in the context of contemporary worship music. Newly written hymns, and fresh renderings of ancient prayers and perspectives will meet with the energies of the modern worship expression in simple, acoustic demos.

Songs for Church Seasons and Events, such as:
Advent
Christmas
Epiphany
Lent And The Passion
Easter (6 weeks)
Ordinary Time (Gospels and wider biblical stories and themes)
Eucharist
Baptism
Marriage

Songs On Emerging Church Themes, such as:
Creational Theology
Ancient Wisdom
Missional Church
Cosmic Redemption
Personal And Corporate Salvation

Check in October 1 for fresh creations-with-a-mission flowing from our community.

Thanks so much for this Dan, great song, I eagerly await more songs.

A much needed gift to Modern Worship Life.

ZipZapZop 080805: Laughter, Tao

Watch the video

ZipZapZop Daily: Tips, News and Entertainment for the Brave New World.
Hosted by Clark Saturn, recorded (mostly) live in New York City.

Today’s ZipZapZop.com topics:

  • Laughter Meditation with Beth Agnew (via We Are the Media.com)
  • Please send me an AIFF (AIF) or WAV file of you laughing. (Preferably in a quiet room, but perhaps you are looking at something you think is funny so it sounds real) OH I forgot: please make it under 20 seconds..)
  • Oh and also, a quicktime video or mpeg4 video of you laughing for 5 seconds would be great, too.
  • Tao Te Ching #38
Post recording cheese random nonsensical rant:
I think Beth’s laughter meditation technique is also interesting because we realize we might have a tendency to look outside ourselves for happiness, joy, laughter, entertainment, but it’s all in us already. We don’t need to look outside ourselves but rather inside. My prediction is that eventually people need less and less entertainment outside themselves, because they move from working from the head toward the heart, and thereby become happier with less, more creative and spontaneous, and we realize our current model of an economy based on consumption and entertainment consumption is out of date and no longer necessary. Instead we spend more time creating and sharing with each other, helping each other grow, learn, and we feed each other.  We no longer need million dollar movies made with green screens and computerized special effects. We no longer need everything to be cosmetic and beautiful and perfect and sublime. We don’t need constant stimulation, noise, music something to do. We can sit in silence for an hour a day and turn in. We can dance and laugh and make food for each other and stop collecting and hoarding so much material stuff. We can use our money to travel and meet and greet and less oil and energy and earth deplete.
I was also thinking about jokes and their relation to this laughter stuff.. Sometimes I’ll be watching a movie, play or TV show, and I’ll start laughing just because of someone’s infectious laugh I hear, not necessarily at the ready-to-laugh-at joke. The simple things, just noticing them, getting a little tickle, and observing it and letting it grow and grow into something bigger until there’s a giggle, and a laugh and a guffaw and snort and cackle. Oh, the cackle. What elicits my cackle and why? Enough for now then, eh?

1) I want one of those.

2) On moe.’s Wormwood album, the last track is a wax recording of them laughing. It’s one of the most halarious things I’ve ever heard.

Those NYC folks must love you!

I only hear that in southern prison movies, i want to say ‘Cool Hand Luke’

But then my memories are fractional.

I really enjoy the daily philosophy. If you can’t laugh at the Tao, wht can you laugh at?

Thanks for playing Beth’s fine laughter. Yeah, zudfunck, the NYC folks do really love having ZipZapZop in the ‘hood.

Here’s the link to the laughtrack.

Acquiescence

The victims of this disease
are quick to be forgotten,
lost behind the fear
and doubt that cloud our minds.

Preferring to stay in darkness
we hide in our beds
while our nation wastes away.

Telephone lines void of conversation,
parking spaces abandon,
houses vacant of another’s warmth.

The passing of time led us
to desert that which we held so dear.
Ashes of memories litter the ground,
swept away by harsh winds
of ingratitude.

There are no celebrities
protesting this decadence
or praising orange bottles of relief.
No one resists this atrophy.

Lives etiolate
like the green of dying trees,
eventually to crack and fall
under the stars’ pale light.

This monster will not be satisfied
with our ruination. It will spread
across this country.
We will perish under its hand.

Live from Washington Heights: late night guilt trips

Posted in TNY on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006

This is what you get for being up till dawn. (This cartoon was rejected by The New Yorker a few times, so I’m supposing it was just too dark. Dark but true.)

Not that I was trying to sleep. (I’m up trying to come up with a new cartoon that TNY might buy!) At least I’ve got one in the magazine this week, a fact that is a balm to my poor, uninspired soul tonight.

FAA says the future is finally coming!

Posted in etc. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006

Remember the gnat-like crowds of tiny jetcraft foretold in The Jetsons? I’ve been waiting for them to fill the skies since I was ten years old! It took me 30 years to realize that the future was never coming. But wait! It may yet arrive. According to the FAA, thousands of small aircraft seating four to six passengers — air-taxis — will be filling our skies in the near future, rendering obsolete the huge jumbo jets of our present archaic (according to The Jetsons and Buck Rogers) air-travel habits.

I’m overjoyed in a naive, idealistic sci-fi sort of way. Can you imagine what the new breed of air-cabbies will be like? Will they be like the old fashioned Frank Capra cabby, or like the Middle Eastern men who tell me to shut my mouth as if I were a wayward daughter? Or like Paul Robeson’s cousin (or was it his nephew?) who sang off-key but definitely in Paul Robeson’s voice to me all the way to 44th street from the LES? Maybe like the Spanish guy who turned his steering wheel back and forth to the rhythm of “Video Killed the Radio Star”? Or more like the ex-general from Africa who told me I had a future?

I can’t wait!
